Forgiveness is really Tough

This Sunday we will be looking into this issue forgiveness. If you read the account of Joseph and his brothers you get an inkling how hard forgiveness is. Some of us know that first hand because of a painful relationship or family history. Many times we make it seem like all Christians are able to forgive anyone for anything. But if you look into Genesis 37-50 or talk to a friend you find its not three easy steps.

Here’s some great resources on forgiveness:

1) “When Forgiveness Doesn’t Make Sense” by Robert Jeffress. I read this book in seminary and it gave me so many things to chew on. One of the author’s best thoughts is …forgiveness is important us to extend because it frees us from becoming bitter and resentful. Forgiveness frees not only the offender, it frees us too. 2) “Peacemaker” By Ken Sande. The best book on reconciliation. Read it because you will have to use it this year as you serve.
3) “The Hiding Place” by Corrie Ten Boom. Great story of Corrie surviving a German concentration camp and her forgiveness extended to prison guards.
4) Matthew 18 outlines so many issues surrounding forgiveness. Read the whole chapter and see: humility, the process for conflict resolution, how many times we should forgive & the unmerciful servant.
