The power of story

People’s story is powerful. When you hear someone’s story of their life, their work, their family, their spiritual journey you are drawn in. There is something beautiful about being willing to share your tough stuff, your joys, your foibles. Instead of being repelled, done appropriately, people cheer you on, they are attracted.

Its interesting too that I don’t get that much reaction when I teach. People can sit there pleasantly and listen when we teach. Share your story and folks are moved, they smile, they begin well up with tears. It is a reminder that a big part of doing community together isn’t just the time in the Bible, its how we share our lives together.

What’s worked well in your group to get folks sharing their story?
