For His Honor

I was using my prayer book called “Face to Face” this morning and ran into this verse. Ps 31:3 “Since you are my rock and my fortress, for your name’s sake lead me and guide me.” The NLT says it this way, “You are my rock and my fortress.
For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger.”

God being our rock and fortress is powerful image. We have something to hold on to. We are not left dangling. We have a place of safely and strength. What a joy and relief. We are not left to fend for ourselves. God himself is our protector and strength. We need that!

This verse goes on to petition the Lord to lead and guide us through this dangerous life. Each of us need direction to navigate the precarious water we are in. There are things to avoid, easier places cruise. There are places both calm & rough waters. Through all those waters we need His direction and leadership.

Yet….its not for my glory. It is not so that I look good. It is not so I feel good about how well I am living life. He leads us so that we bring Him honor. My life  brings respect to His name, not mine.

What a great hope we have for guidance. And what a great purpose we have to bring honor to Him.

for your name’s sake lead me and guide me.
