Going back to Acts chapter 10 from last week; I’ve always had a question about the teachings…Peter is commanded to accept the Gentiles and to eat any animal or bird that God has created. Then how do sects and denominations have eating restrictions, i.e., pork on certain days, etc. ? Does Jesus teach on this in New Testament?
I don’t think Christ teaches on eating restrictions, but he certainly opened the door to living beyond the confines of Jewish laws on the Sabbath, washing etc. Think of how Jesus pushes the Pharisees the whole issue of the Sabbath. “Sabbath is made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” “Wouldn’t you pull out your donkey in a ditch on a Sabbath??”
So when you couple that with Peter’s vision you can begin to see the dismantling of these hundreds of laws the Jews used to interpret the Law.
We also can’t forget that the holiness laws were set up to tutor us as Galatians says. Now that Christ has come we are free from these religious laws. We’re not free from the moral law or the law of Christ, which is love.
