Things we need to do as leaders in the church
What are the essential things we should be doing as leaders, as stewards of God’s church. Paul does some wise things we should take note on.
Acts 14:21b-23 “they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch,22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.23 And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed.”
When the Apostle Paul was finishing his first missionary journey he started to double back to check in on the young believers he had left. Here’s what we as leaders need to do.
- Strengthen the disciples
- Encourage them to keep the faith
- Warn them about the difficulties ahead
- Appoint elders to continue this work.
May we do this for those the Lord has given us to shepherd.

Great points Dane, our group meetings should include encouragement to continue; it’s not easy serving Christ in this world.
I think of the wisdom Paul had to understand he had to back track and check in on his people. I think I would have said, “Let’s go home to Antioch the fastest way.” :^)
Great lessons for us in leading.
They seemed to seek God in all their decisions with fasting and prayer. I wonder what this looked like?
